Prague Barbarians RFC 2007/2008

In April 2007 it was agreed that The Prague Barbarians Rugby Club would become members of Slavia Prague Rugby Club, as the third team run on a purely social basis.

The Prague Barbarians celebrate 15 years of existence next year formed many years ago in the now gone but not forgotten James Joyce.

The Barbarians traditionally has being made up from Expatriates but Czech and Slovaks have also played the Barbarians spirit has always being to play for fun and enjoy the social side of Rugby.

Fixtures have being varied over the years, against Czech Teams on a friendly basis and for a number of years entered a team in the Czech 2nd Division.

The Barbarians have also played many a touring side from all over the world as well as competing in the Warsaw 10s Capitals Cup and the Prague 7s on a regular basis.

Plans are in force to celebrate 15th birthday by a grand reunion in Prague next September 2008,at the same time as Hosting the 2008 Capitals Cup.

Over the years many friendships, business deals, beers consumed and the occasional touch of Rugby have evolved via the Ba Baas.

Recently the club has gone through a lean period regarding membership but has being held together by a diehard few.

A concerted effort to relaunch the club has being made, to attract new players and social members, and securing a permanent home with long term friends at Slavia was the first step.

The Barbarians had a number of fixtures in the spring this year even managing a victory, playing against Bromley from UK, Monkshead from Ireland, and Rudderia from Italy.

The Barbarians will travel to Vienna at the end of August to play in the Capitals Cup an annual tournament held on a rotating basis in the capital cities of Eastern Europe,for their respective expatriate from Warsaw, Budapest, The Baltic's,Vienna, Prague and Moscow.

The season starts again in early September already a number of fixtures are arranged, if you wish to join the Barbarians, they welcome players from all nationalities,and of all standards and experience.

Training restarts on Tuesday 31st of July at 18:15 at Slavia Rugby Stadium.

The current base for the Barbarians is The Lions British Bar can usually find someone from Rugby Club in the bar especially when live rugby is on.
